Frequently asked questions

How many investment firms are in this directory?

31,029, each with its own page. A few hundred more are on record and do not get one: no known portfolio, no people attached, nothing on them a founder could act on. A page for those would be a name and a heading.

Are these firms ranked?

No. This list is alphabetical, and nothing here scores one firm against another. The "Top funds" block on the funds hub is ordered by how many portfolio companies we have on record, which measures how much is publicly known about a firm at least as much as it measures the firm.

What does "known portfolio" mean?

Companies we can attribute to the firm from public sources. It is a floor, not a total. A fund that has backed two hundred startups and disclosed thirty shows thirty here, so read a small number as "this is what is public", not as "this firm is small".

Can I see who to approach at a firm?

Each firm page lists the people attached to it with their roles, and marks the ones listed as contacts for the firm. Names and roles are public. Email addresses and phone numbers are masked until you create an account, on every page, for everyone.

When would I use this instead of browsing by sector or stage?

Use this when you have a name. The sector, stage, type and focus lists are for the other direction, when you know the shape of the investor you want and not who they are.
