Often, though it depends on the investor. Some funds have a mandate limited to one country or region, and some tax structures make cross-border cheques harder. It is worth asking early rather than discovering the constraint after several meetings.

Far more than feels comfortable. Response rates on cold outreach are low even when the fit is good, so a list of a handful of perfect names tends to stall. Build a long list, sort it by how well each one matches what you are building, and work down it in batches rather than sending everything at once.

A short deck, a one-paragraph description of what you do and who it is for, and a clear number for how much you are raising. Investors read the first two lines before they decide whether to open the deck, so those lines matter more than the rest of the document.

It helps, mostly because it moves your email out of a crowded inbox. It is not a requirement. A cold message that shows you understand what someone has already backed, and why your company fits that pattern, gets read more often than a vague introduction from a distant contact.

Look at what they have already funded rather than what their profile says they like. Stage matters most, then sector, then geography. An investor who has never funded anything at your stage is unlikely to start with you, however well the sector lines up.

Longer than most first-time founders plan for. The work splits into building the list, running outreach, taking meetings, and closing, and each stage can stretch. Start before you need the money, not when the runway is short.
