Investor type mostly tells you where the money comes from and how the decision gets made, which in turn shapes cheque size, speed, and how much say the firm expects afterwards. It is worth matching type to the stage you are at before matching on sector.

Usually by a group rather than by the person you first spoke to. One partner sponsors the deal internally and takes it to the rest, which is why the process runs longer than an angel conversation and why a single enthusiastic meeting is not yet a commitment.

Less than it used to. Plenty of firms back companies outside their own city, and remote first meetings are normal. Being nearby helps with introductions and later conversations, but it is rarely the thing that decides an investment.
